The John Rylands University Library has been building up a Japanese Studies collection and has absorbed the materials formerly held at the Japan Centre. Assistance has been received from the Japan Foundation. The University Language Centre has Satellite TV, periodicals and a library including video and audio materials.

The holdings are quite extensive and are being augmented continually. Collections totaling some 18,000 volumes have recently been assessed for integration into the library catalogue
