All the schemes are 4 years in length.
In Year 1 all students study two double modules in Japanese Language as well as modules called 'Writing, Reading and Thinking' and 'Japanese History', together with their modules in the other part of their degree.
In Year 2 all students study two double modules in Japanese Language as well as a double module called 'Modern Japanese Society', together with their modules in the other part of their degree.
The third year is the intercalary year (see below)
In Year 4 all students study the Japanese language double module 'Advanced Japanese Communication', the double module 'Advanced Japanese Studies and Texts' (which also contains Japanese language elements), and the double module °∆Japanese Studies Dissertation'.
Study Period Abroad
Students studying Business Studies & Japanese spend the whole of the third academic year in Japan at one of the exchange universities. Students on the other degree scheme go to Japan in April following their period of study spent in Europe . Dr Hood is the coordinator for the programme.
Exchange universities are; Chuo University, Dokkyo University, ICU, Keio University, University of Kitakyushu, Kobe National University, Meiji University, Yokohama National University.
Proposals for taught postgraduate programmes are currently being put together and are expected to be launched for September 2008.
There are currently 2 PhD students in the Centre.
